Acrylic on 48" by 72" canvas
The Facade is a bright painting with orange and red-hued blocks layered over another image, revealing dark shadows underneath—the most prominent being a dark square in the center. This piece is a metaphor for the often happy facade people with severe depression present to the world. Hoping others won't see the darkness that torments them- the often intrusive painful memories of past injuries, especially those experienced as children.
This piece's frame is perfectly-imperfect; it is slightly curved in the top right corner—representing the force and energy required to keep it together, almost breaking the person. ( I can have the piece reframed if the purchaser prefers.)
This piece makes me think of Robin Williams. I do not know his whole story, but I know we enjoyed a high-energy public persona- a facade of sorts. I can only imagine a mental health illness privately tormented him. Despite that, he used his talents and gifts to impact the world. His legacy will live on.
